Will my child be on the same team as last season?

Every fall all of the teams are reset. From the fall to spring season every effort is made to place the returning players who register on time on the same team in the U6-U19 divisions. The U5 division is reset each season. If you wish to be on a different team for whatever reason you must state so in the comments section during registration or email the registrar at registrar@vsaonline.org before the season.

What is the registration period?

For the Fall /Spring seasons players who register by July 10/February 10 will be guaranteed a spot on a team. If you register after those dates, the player will be placed on a team on a space available basis. If the player cannot be placed before the season starts they will be placed on a waitlist in the event another player withdraws.

My child plays for a VSA Heat travel team. Do I still need to register online?

All VSA PDP Travel Players will receive instructions on how to register.

Can my child be on a friend or neighbor’s team?

Unfortunately, the league cannot honor such requests. If both families are willing to coach the same team together, then the two players can be placed on the same team. Otherwise, only siblings are guaranteed to be placed on the same team when they fall into the same age group.

What are the ages for the different divisions?

Can my child play if he/she will be three after the 7/31/2012 cutoff date?

All players must turn three by the 7/31/2012 cutoff to play. There will not be any exceptions made to this date.

Can my child play up a division?

Any player who has a birthday in August or September is allowed to move up a division in order for that player to play soccer with the players in their grade level. All other requests are answered on a special request basis and requests should be sent to the registrar at registrar@vsaonline.org at the time of registration. Do not make the request after the teams have been set.

Can my child play down a division?

No child is allowed to play down a division for insurance purposes. So this request cannot be honored.

Can my two children play on the same team?

If your children fall into the same division then VSA will automatically place them on the same team. If you wish them on different teams you will need to notify the registrar after you have registered.

If I want to coach, will I be coaching my child’s team?

Yes, all coaches will have their child on their team.

Can I coach more than one team?

You can coach more than one team. Your practice schedules will be back to back and match schedules will be adjusted to be sure there are no conflicts between the two teams

Can I coach with a friend or neighbor?

You may request someone to coach with and every effort will be made to honor the request. Please be sure that you have indicated you can practice on the same nights and that your children fall into the same division. To coach with someone in particular, please note in the requests section on volunteer page of registration “coach with NAME”.

Can I request nights or times that I am available to coach?

During the registration process there is a chance to indicate which nights your child is available to play. If you can only coach at a certain time it needs to be indicated in the request section on the volunteer page during registration. Please note “can only coach at TIME” or “cannot coach at TIME”.

Can I make a request regarding a certain practice night?

During the registration process there is a chance to indicate which nights your child is available to practice.

Can I make a request for a practice time?

No, requests for practice times will not be honored for players. We do our best to accommodate those requests from coaches.

Will my children practice on the same nights?

Every effort is made to put players from the same family on the same practice nights. In the event that there is only one team in the player’s division (this sometimes happens at U14 - U19) there is no guarantee that that team will practice the same night as your other children. You will be informed if this is the case.

Will my children practice at the same time?

There is no guarantee that your children will practice at the same time, but they will practice on the same nights. This can be done for the younger divisions, but once the player reaches the U14 and above divisions, VSA cannot guarantee it, but will try. This is because there may only be one team in a division or both teams may practice on the same nights and that is not what was requested for the younger player.

What times are practices?

Practices in the fall start at 5:00 and 6:00 for the one-hour practices and 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 and 6:30 for the half hour practices. In the spring, practices start at 5:30 and 6:30 for the one-hour practices and 5:30, 6:00, 6:30 and 7:00 for the half hour practices. We must start so early in the fall because it starts to get dark so early.

What are the fees for playing soccer with VSA?

Registration for the U5 division is $90.

Registration for all other divisions is $105, with a $10 discount for the second and third child playing. There is no additional discount for a U5 player as their registration fee is already discounted. Discounts for multiple players are not available during late registration.

Registration for those players in U14 and older divisions include an additional $15 per player to cover the cost of registering in the SFL (Suburban Friendship League).

Registration for those who live outside of Prince William County will be charged a $10 surcharge per the Park Authority.

There is a $20 non-refundable late fee added to all registrations after the cut off date.  Players will only be charged registration fees if players are placed off the waitlist.

Example if you register a U5, U10 and U14 player:

     U14 Player   $105 + $15

     U10 Player   $95

     U5 Player     $90

What happens to my child’s registration if I sign up during late registration?

All players who register after the cutoff date are considered late registrants and are placed on a holding list. The league determines the number of teams based on those who registered on time and then will remove players off the holding list as space permits. All players are removed from this list based on their registration date. The sooner you register the better your chances of being placed on a team. If we are unable to remove your child from the holding list before the season starts they will be put on a waiting list and you will be called when a spot opens up in their age group.

What happens if my child does not get on a team?

You will be notified If your child cannot be placed on a team by the second match of the season.

What if my child wants to withdraw from the league?
To withdraw for the season please notify the registrar at registrar@vsaonline.org. If your child is withdrawn before the second match is played, a refund will be issued for the registration fee less a $15 withdrawal fee and any included uniform fees. If you were a late registrant, the refund will be less the $20 non-refundable late fee and the $15 withdrawal fee and any included uniform fees.

Where are practices?

For the U5 through U10 divisions all practices are held at James Long Park on Route 15 in Haymarket or off Linton Hall Rd. For the U12 through U19 divisions, practices may be at James Long Park, Mt View Elementary, Alvey Elementary or Bull Run Middle School. All four fields are within 10-15 minutes of each other. We also have limited field space at Valley View Park, Victory Elementary, Glenkirk Elementary and Cedar Point Elementary and make every attempt to schedule practice there for players who live between RT 28 and RT 29. Because of the field constraints at Valley View Park, only U5, U6, U8 and U10 teams can practice there.

How long are practices?

Practices for the U5 division are 30 minutes long and are once a week.

Practices for the U6 division are 60 minutes long and are once a week.

Practices for U8 – U19 are 60 minutes long and are twice a week, either on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday.

When do practices start?

Practices for U5 through U10 start on September 1 for the fall season and on April 1 for the spring season. Practices for U12 through U19 usually start one week earlier.

When and where are matches played?

Matches for U5 through U12 divisions are played on Saturdays at Long Park beginning at 9:00 am and running through late afternoon. The schedule for the season is posted on the website.

Matches for U14 through U19 are also played on Saturdays, but will be at Long Park for home matches and opponents fields for away matches. Opponents include, but are not limited to, Prince William, Reston, Chantilly, Herndon, Centreville, Loudoun and Springfield.

What equipment does my child need to play soccer?

All players must wear shin guards to all practices and matches. It is a good idea to have a water bottle and soccer ball also. Cleats are not required, but most players do have them. See the playing guidelines on the website for information as to ball size for each division.
