Meeting was called to order at 7:10.
Treasurer Report: Lynn just received the paper work (on 4/18/2009) from the old accountant. She will prepare a year to date statement for the next meeting. She will also be meeting with Dave and the new accountant in order to get things moving forward. Lynn needs to sign a signature card for the other bank, so she is on both accounts. Dave will prepare a corporate resolution.
President:
The majority of the meeting was spent discussing the technical director position. The evaluation committee met many times over the past 45 days. There were several great candidates from whom to choose. The final decision of the evaluation committee was for Gus Donolo to be the new Technical Director for VSA.
The board discussed the merit of coaching evaluations. It is felt that the money would be better spent in providing more coaching sessions. By preparing the coaches more, the players would ultimately recieve greater benefits for the money. The long term goal is consistency within the club: superb ball handling skills, possession skills, etc.
The board discussed the program costs for the Technical Director. When originally starting this process, the club stated it felt comfortable doing this at $35,000. However, the club is looking at an expenditure of approximately $40,000 per year. The question was raised, asking if we felt comfortable that we can raise the additional $5000. The majority agreed that yes, we can raise that amount, as long as the soccer players are benefitting.
A motion was made to start negotiations with Gus Donolo for Technical Director. The vote was 6 to 3 in favor of going into the negotiation phase. Dave, Shannon and Bill will handle the negotiations.
Public Forum: Mike Alessi joined the meeting in order to ask some questions on how the Technical Director would impact the travel teams. All the travel teams are grandfathered in. New travel teams starting with U9 boys and girls in the Fall of 2009 will have professional coaches selected by the Technical Director. For those age groups with more than one team, it is recommended that they utilize the services of the Technical Director in order to have an outside, impartial party recommend the team on which players should be placed. It is hoped that by doing so, players would benefit from the correct level of challenge.
