Player Development Program (PDP)

The PDP is a transformational program that restores the player and the beautiful game to the forefront at VSA. Key tenets of the PDP are player-centric developmental focus at all ages, solid technical oversight, keeping soccer fun and emergence of a single united club.

The system is based on a developmental model for success on the pitch that begins at U5 and continues through U19 and beyond.  Age-appropriate training programs will be developed and overseen by a Technical Director (TD). The TD will serve as an employee of VSA and will in turn hire staff coaches committed to player development. Through the TD, the PDP re-establishes VSA insight and oversight into travel program operations.

The PDP will make changes in phases, the first being the transitional travel age groups. The 2011-12 U9 boys and girls travel teams will enter directly into the new model.  The U10’s and U11’s, regardless of academy or non-academy status, will be converted as well given the differences between the goal end state and current state are far closer together than the predominance of the older teams. During the coming year, the recreational program will be evaluated by the TD. The goal is to create a bridge to travel soccer that goes beyond a single-year cross-over program, but one that identifies and refines talent from U8 through U12 age groups. These recreational changes are enabled by our outstanding and consistent growth in player population. The recreational program will also benefit from the TD’s knowledge through coaching education, training plans, demonstrations, and online tools.

One Year Goal:

By the entry point into the 2012-2013 season the recreational restructure in place and the U9 through U12 transitional travel age groups unified and operating as a unified club.
