Lights at Long Park?

Battlefield HS 7:30 9/23...Marstellar MS 7:00 9/30

Here is our chance to make it happen!!!

Do you wish that your child got to spend more time playing on VSA’s best soccer fields?  Do you wish that our soccer fields and park were not so congested?  Do you wish that your child had a little later practice time so that you didn’t have to rush home on practice night, or so you could help out with the team?  Would you like to see VSA have an adult program?  We could do all these things if we had lights at Long Park and future parks in the Gainesville-Haymarket area.  Well... here is our ONE CHANCE to make this happen!

Over the next couple of weeks the Prince William County Board of Supervisors will be holding public hearings on future land use within the county.  The Planning Commission is trying to introduce new language into the Land Use Plan that would prevent lights, sewer, and water at all field sports parks such as James Long Park in the Rural Crescent.  They say that lights at ball fields are inconsistent with the rural lifestyle that people in the Rural Crescent desire.  Personally, I don’t think they could be farther from reality.  As I travel about the state and through small towns everywhere, the one thing I consistently see is the lights on at the local soccer, football, or baseball fields as their citizens enjoy an evening of recreation.  If we are going to stop this misguided legislation and give our supervisors the support they need to insert language saying that parks the size of Long Park should have lights, then we need to act now!  We need to have at least 400 adults show up at each of the meetings in the Brentsville and Gainesville Districts.  Not everyone will have to speak, but when a VSA Board member asks to have all the people stand who are there to support lights at parks, we want to be able to send a strong statement.  If we can get this language into the plan, we hope to have some lights on fields by later this fall.

The meeting for the Gainesville District is Wednesday, September 23rd, 7:30 PM at Battlefield High School.  The meeting for the Brentsville District is Wednesday, September 30th, 7:00 PM at Marstellar Middle School.  Can we count on you to be there?  If not at both meetings, at least at the one for the district in which you live?

Thanks in advance for your help.
