On Thursday, October 20th, Virginia Soccer Association held their seasonal Recreation All-Star Event. This event takes place to recognize and appreciate our outstanding Recreation program. Each season, coaches submit their nominations for this event based on players' work ethic, character and playing ability.
"Our Rec All-Star event is an extremely exciting event each season. It gives us the opportunity to recognize all of the great work our Recreation players and coaches do day in and day out. We truly enjoy this experience. For this season's event, we were lucky enough to have upwards of 200 players in attendance," says Director of Recreation, Dustin Butcher.
The Recreation All-Star event is organized and coached by VSA's Full-Time and travel coaching staff each season. This year was another fantastic event, featuring some amazing kids. Executive Director, Matt Lacey had this to say,"Over the past two years our Rec All-Star event has really grown into one of our most rewarding evenings of the year. It not only recognizes children for their efforts but it brings the club together in such a positive player centric environment. The emphasis of the night is about enjoying soccer and once again the fall 2016 All-Star night was a success"

VSA Announces Matt Lacey as Executive Director
(October 7, 2016; Haymarket, VA) Virginia Soccer Association is pleased to announce Matt Lacey as the club’s Executive Director. Lacey will be transitioning from his role as Technical Director after a successful 2 years transforming VSA into one of the top clubs in Virginia in player education and development. Lacey will continue to lead the technical direction of the club but will now oversee the administrative and business operations moving forward.
VSA President Michael Bachman said of Mr. Lacey’s hiring, "He brings a wealth of experience to this newly created position overseeing every aspect of the club’s operations. The club has seen exponential growth in the quality of the coaching staff, player development and growing opportunities for all our athletes under Lacey’s position as Technical Director. VSA looks forward to this next chapter under his direction as Executive Director."
During Lacey’s time at VSA, the club has seen tremendous improvements in club structure from growth to player development and coaching education opportunities. Virginia Soccer Association proudly now boasts some of the best professional coaches in the Northern Virginia area along with some of the best facilities and league platforms in the state of Virginia.
“First of all, I am very excited for this new challenge and grateful for this opportunity," says Lacey. "During my time at the club I have been fortunate enough to work with a supportive club Board of Directors that has allowed us to make changes that have had a meaningful impact at VSA and in the soccer community. I have been very fortunate to be able to handpick a quality soccer staff that each day continues to work hard improving themselves and the players at our club. I now look forward to developing the club's footprint in the local community and developing a more effective way to serve our membership on a daily basis.”
Some notable achievements by Lacey during his tenure have been the club’s successful application and acceptance into the Virginia National Premier League, the creation of the Youth Development League (YDL), record numbers of players in the Virginia ODP program, and the co-founding of the Virginia Development Academy (US Development Academy - Boys and Girl Member Club) in coalition with Prince William Soccer Club and Chantilly Youth Association.
Lacey continued reflecting, “When I look at the past two years at the club, we have had tremendous growth and success, but in my opinion, the greatest success is turning up to the fields and seeing our players reap the benefits of the club we have created. Working each day with quality people and staff with a supportive group of parents really does accelerate the development process for creating better soccer players and more importantly hard working people. I am in a privileged position because of this and I look forward to continually working hard to improve what we have put in place.”
Lacey, who holds a USSF A license, sits on the Board of Directors for the Virginia National Premier League, the Youth Development League, and the Virginia Development Academy. He is also part of the VYSA State Olympic Development Program as a coach along with a Coaching Education Instructor delivering US Soccer Licenses for the state of Virginia.
